The pharmacognosy team has developed 3 major research areas.

1. Identification of new natural bioactive compounds: Ethnopharmacological screening of medicinal plants with antimalarial, anticancer, antioxidant or other biological properties. Bioguided fractionation, purification, isolation and structure determination of the bioactive natural products, and their pharmacological study. 
2. Plant metabolomics: Metabolomic analysis of vegetal extracts, for the identification of analytical markers of medicinal plants and for the discovery of bioactive compounds.
3. Development of phytochemical analytical methods: Development and validation of analytical methods (HPLC, TLC, GC ...) for the quality control of vegetal raw material or phytomedicines. Development of Improved Traditional Medicines (ITM), mainly in cooperation with African countries.
